A Shot In The Dark?

The latest cutting-edge news from the world of photography may be a step towards solving the problem of “low-light” environments, and, surprisingly, is expected to first surface in camera phones.

A research team at South Korea’s Electronic Technology Institute has developed a new sensor chip that allows cameras to capture images without a flash, in the darkest of spaces. The chip will, initially, be utilized in CCTV cameras, vehicle rear-view cameras, and camera phones, and promises “clear pictures with light as bright as the lighting from a candle one meter away in a dark room.”

Perfect for those late-night shots at the dimly-lit watering hole, right?
