For those of you who have been wondering about Klout, I am here to tell you. Klout is a FREE app for Apple and Android devices that is mentioned a lot, but some still seem to be very confused of what it actually does. Well, let's start off by first looking at the definition of Clout. The Wikipedia definition of Clout (spelled with a "C" not a "K") refers to political or social power. The creators of Klout simply changed the spelling but the idea of the app is exactly the same. Klout uses all of our social media platforms and gives us a Klout score based on many factors. That score is then considered to be our social influence over others. For example, if you are very active on Facebook and Twitter and your posts and tweets generate lots of likes, retweets, etc., you will most likely have a higher Klout score than someone who is less active.

Klout starts with you creating an account and linking all of the social networks you are a part of to that account. So if you are on Facebook and Twitter, be sure to add those as your networks. Your Klout score can be anywhere from 1-100 and is based on how engaging you are on your social networks over the past 90 days, how engaging people are with you, and the rank the people who are engaging with you have. For example, someone with a Klout score of 98 will help your rank much more than a person with a Klout score of 10. But needless to say all engagement helps so be influential. Being active on your networks is not the same as being influential. Being influential means people are engaging with you because what you have to say means something to them.

With the Klout app you can get notifications through the "Notifications" tab that alerts you to changes in your score, if someone endorses one of your expert answers, new questions you might be eligible to answer, and if someone gives you a +K, which verifies that you are influential or an expert on a certain topic and qualifies you for perks. The "Profile" tab displays your Klout score in real time, your influencers, and more. If you would like to endorse a topic someone else has posted about you have 5 +K's to use a day and can give one to someone by swiping your finger across the topic name while on the influencer's page.

So now that you know just what Klout has to offer, get on your smartphone or tablet now and download this great app today!
