For some, tornados are the stuff of Hollywood, but for the unfortunate they are a sudden, terrifying reality. Yesterday, a tornado flattened Moore, Oklahoma, a southern suburb of Oklahoma City, with initial estimates of more than 50 dead, including dozens of children.
The numbers of wounded and killed will change in the coming days, as always happens in the aftermath of an emergency, but the destruction cannot be understated. Entire blocks were devastated by the tornado, which is estimated to have been more than a mile wide and pushing wind at 200+ miles per hour. Folks there had mere minutes to seek shelter and now they face years of heartache and recovery.
