LG Glimmer for Alltel Lands Thursday

We’ve been able to confirm some of the recent Internet rumors flying around regarding the LG Glimmer AX830 for Alltel - this highly anticipated cell phone is on the way, and we’ll have it at Wirefly by the end of the week.

The Glimmer is positioned to compete well with Verizon’s Voyager and Venus, and combines some of the best of LG’s current technology. The central selling point: a fully functional haptic touchscreen housed in the form factor of an LG Shine. In other words, this is a thin slider phone with a full keypad and a large, interactive, attention-grabbing touchscreen.

It also looks really slick.

Word of the Glimmer leaked out a few weeks ago, but most of the cell phone community was taken by surprise today when Alltel confirmed that the release is already upon us. And how’s this for a ‘buzz barometer’ - Alltel employees are being forced to wait two weeks before ordering a Glimmer, just to ensure that enough supply remains for consumers.

The feature set for the LG Glimmer includes that huge 2.8″ touch display, a 2-megapixel camera (with flash), a microSD slot, Bluetooth, and EV-DO data speeds. We can also vouch for the construction of this phone - the metallic frame lends a nice, sturdy feel.

The Glimmer has the potential to be a real flagship cell phone for Alltel, and also looks like a winner for LG. Keep an eye out - you’ll start to see the LG Glimmer making its mark for both companies real soon.
