ZTE Introduces Nubia 5S Mini LTE Phone to US Market

August 20, 2014 | by Guile Canencia

When it comes to making phones, China doesn't necessarily lack in that department. As a matter of fact, if you do a simple Google search using the phrase "chinese phone maker", brands like Huawei, Lenovo, and of course, ZTE, will come up. If you're not familiar with these names, there's no need to fret -- these brands are not that well-known in the United States. Take ZTE, for instance. Not many realize that ZTE has been selling its products here in the US for many years now, although oftentimes its phones are rebranded by carriers. And because their devices are mostly of the low-end prepaid phone type, they don't garner much attention from the press, not to mention the average phone buyer. It's a bit of a shame because for the last few years, ZTE has been releasing some high-end... read more

Ignore No More App Locks Teens’ Phones Until They Call Their Parents Back

August 20, 2014 | by Guile Canencia

It's definitely something any parent can relate to: your teenage son or daughter ignoring your calls or text messages. Fortunately for frustrated parents everywhere, a certain mom decided that enough was enough. Sharon Standifir hails from New York City, and just like any other disgruntled parent, she had had her fair share of being-ignored-by-your-teenager stories. So one day, she made a decision to create an app so that she won't have to be subjected to any mobile silent treatment again by any of her kids. The end product is Ignore No More, an app which Standifir came up with after working with developers for several months. The app works simple enough -- it allows parents to lock their kids' smartphones using a separate device (preferably the parents' own phone or mobile device).... read more

Tom Hanks’ Typewriter-Mimicking App Tops iTunes App Store

August 19, 2014 | by Guile Canencia

The Hanx Writer, the typewriter-mimicking app launched by actor Tom Hanks last August 14, has proven to be a hit, at least for iPad users. As of August 18 Monday evening, the two-time Oscar-winning thespian's app sat at number one on iTunes' app store.Inspired by Hanks' own fascination with manual typewriters, the app was developed to transform your iPad into a manual typewriter, or at least try to. The Hanx Writer replicates the familiar thwack sound of an old-school typewriter's keys hitting paper. It even reproduces the ding-click-clunk chime that typewriters make when you get to the end of one line and you have to... read more
